Suzanna Linton Guest Post

"Quitting My Day Job to Live the Dream" In one of the few romantic comedies I enjoy, When Harry Met Sally , Harry (Billy Crystal) says to Sally (Meg Ryan), “I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” That pretty much sums up my decision to leave my day job and write full time, with me as Harry and my writing as Sally. However, this is a blog post, so maybe I should elaborate. My day job was working part-time as a library assistant for the Reference Department of my local library. My job consisted in helping people sign into their email, answer phone calls, and research some of the most random questions in the history of man. And, every now again, I looked up a book. From a writer’s standpoint, it was a dream job. I only worked half a day, leaving me entire afternoons or mornings to write, and when I did work, I had a front row seat to human n...

Jassy de Jong Guest Post

Image
Jassy de Jong, author of Drowning, has provided a guest post for readers. You can read it below: I confess... I love Valentine’s Day. Some call it over-commercialized. I say that’s just as well. Thank goodness for all those entrepreneurs out there, designing cards with hearts and glitter, and making teddy bears on sticks and ruby pendants and chocolates with red wrappers, and growing long stemmed roses. I mean, what would we give as gifts otherwise? Easter eggs? Pumpkins? Some call it schmaltzy. Well, what do you expect? It’s a day celebrating love. Soppy, doting, romantic, couply love. It’s all about hand holding, intertwined fingers, long, deep gazes into each other’s eyes. It’s about saying, “You’re so amazing,” and getting the answer, “No, you’re so amazing, and then saying, “I’m so glad I met you,” and hearing, “No, I’m so glad I met  you . Here, have some more champagne.” I googled the origins of Valentine’s Day... I had a confused idea it was something to d...

here is a link that will take you to the book: http://bookstore.xlibris.com/Products/SKU-000780005/The-Wizard-and-the-Fairy-Princess.aspx The Wizard and the Fairy Princess - H. F. Galloway : Xlibris bookstore.xlibris.com about the author: Having always been a storyteller, I was asked by a friend of mine if I would create a story with her being one of the characters. She had always dreamed of being a fairy. I said “Sure,” not having much knowledge of what being a fairy was. Churning my brain, I began the research. Every night, a piece of the story arrived while I slept, filtered in the subconscious mind. Being a writer, I get to savor the story like a fine meal, embracing every moment until sadly, happily, and unexpectedly it comes to the end. synopsis:A human is accidently transported back to an enchanted world where fairies live, and he begins to acquire magical powers, eventually becoming a wizard. At the same time, a fairy egg...

Kathy Bennett Guest Post

Image
I want to thank Tasha for having me as a guest on her blog. I love talking about how I came to be a writer and how I put my stories together. My promise to my readers is that I write authentic crime while telling arresting stories. As a retired twenty-one year veteran of the Los Angeles Police department, I weave small bits and pieces of my experiences as a police officer into the stories I write. Police work is not always pretty and sometimes the reality can be troubling to those who don't wear the badge. Those who do wear the badge usually learn coping mechanisms for the evil acts people inflict on one another. Most police officers like to think they are trained to handle whatever the streets throw at them – and usually they are prepared. However, a year or so ago, police officers all over Southern California and, in particular, the LAPD were on edge – and with good reason. A former LAPD officer felt he'd been wrongly fired from the department and wrote a rambli...

Mike Hartner Guest Post

On Family and Its Role in I, Walter by Mike Hartner         Family. That word alone means different things to different people. To me, it meant a father, a mother, and several brothers. But, much more importantly to me, it meant love. My family wa s bathed in, and surrounded by love. And that is the most encouraging thing in the world.          So place yourself in the family of Walter Crofter. His father, Geoff, is wishy-washy at best, mostly spineless, and allows people of wealth to get away with nearly anything simply because he’s afraid of losing their business even more than he already has.            Walter’s brother Gerald saw the way customers treated their father, and his reaction was to rise among the ranks of the illegals in London. He was trying to inflict pain on a class of people that had physically and emotionally...

Kindle Fire HD Raffle for Charity - Guest Post by Graham Parke

“I'm very polite by nature, even the voices in my head let each other finish their sentences.” – from Completely Flappable Don’t you just hate it when you have a thousand little thoughts rattling around your brain, good for nothing but keeping you up at night? Ideas, worries, mental reminders for the next day? My voices can get pretty insistent, and mostly this is a nuisance, but sometimes it’s okay, when there’s a story idea or two among the ramblings. And rarely, very rarely, I get what I think is a really good idea, but one that I don't know what to do with. For instance, a while ago it occurred to me that it’s probably not governments or big corporations that wield the world’s greatest financial power. I think it’s us. All the little people together. Then I started wondering what could happen if we all decided to set 1 month of our incomes aside towards fixing this place up a bit. How many of the world’s problems could we actually solve permanently? Half of them, maybe?...

18 Things Guest Post & Giveaway

Thanks for hosting us, Princess Reviews!!! I decided to spend this fine morning at Jumpin' Java Coffee House , one of Olga's favorite hot spots off Washington Street in her small hometown of Grand Haven, Michigan. I'm sitting at a table by the front window to keep an eye out for her. Ah, here she is, sporting Capri jeans and a red Wonder Woman t-shirt, her red curly hair done in french braid pigtails. Me: Hey, girl. How are you today? Olga: I'm happy! Is that for me? *points to a coffee mug in front of the empty seat* Me: Of course! I know better than to approach you with a bunch of deep questions in the morning without giving you coffee first. *takes a seat and groans after her first sip* Olga: Hmm, Chocolate-drizzled Snickers flavored whipped mocha. So . . . deep questions? How deep are we talking about here? *Me grinning as I refrain from a That's What She Said joke. Afterall, Olga is only eighteen years old* Me: Umm, nothing too heavy. Lots of quest...

Greg James Guest Post!

Image
Why I Write YA Fantasy By Greg James Why do I write YA Fantasy?             The simple answer would be because it’s fun. I’ve always had a fertile and over-active imagination so the creation of a whole world with its people, creatures, lands and seas gives me plenty to do while I’m in the process of telling my story. But the simple answer doesn’t cover everything.             I am fascinated by mythology, not only the historical kind but modern mythologies that have been created by writers like J.R.R. Tolkien, Robert Jordan and H.P. Lovecraft in their respective fantasy worlds. To read about the old stories is one thing but to make mythology living, breathing and happening now is something else. To reinterpret the old stories and put your own spin on it, and hope that people understand and like what you are doing, is daunting, exciting and a challenge.   ...

Distinguished Young Women

Image
My name is Tasha Haight and I am the Distinguished Young Woman of the Eastern Shore of Maryland for the Class of 2014. Sounds pretty impressive, right? But what exactly is Distinguished Young Women? Distinguished Young Women, formerly America's Junior Miss, is basically a scholarship pageant. Contestants are judged on academics, interview, self-expression, fitness, and talent. Girls compete in their local programs during their junior year, and the local winners (like me!) move up to compete for the state title during the summer before their senior year in high school. Most state programs last more than one day, because the girls do more than just the pageant. They go out into the community and do community service, rehearse their program, learn about their duties, and have fun with each other and their "little sister". Me and Maddie (my little sister) on her farm! In Maryland, during the week of the state program we stay at a host family's house with our ...
